BACKGROUND
Bethulie had its origins as a mission station for the displaced San from nearby Philippolis in the mid 1820s. Nowadays it is part of the Kopanong Local Municipality along with eight other towns, i.e. Gariepdam, Springfontein, Philippolis, Jagersfontein, Fauresmith, Edenburg, Reddersburg, and Trompsburg where the Kopanong Local Municipality’s administrative headquarters are situated. Bethulie is situated on the R701 route along the northern banks of the Gariep Dam about 200km due south of Bloemfontein.
